18 mm Flat can motors;
These powerful motors are the finest motors for HO diesels and are the basis
of many well known diesel conversions. It does an equally fine job in larger
steam locomotives (from 4-6-2s to 4-8-4s and 2-10-4s) and even On3 2-8-0s
etc. Combined with our large flywheels, the smoothness and quietness of operation
will astonish you and the 10K speed is a perfect match for 28/1 and 30/1
gearboxes.
16 mm Round can motors;
These motors are the best for upgrading medium size steam locomotives and
their low 11,000 rpm speed is much better suited to normal gearbox ratios
than the 15,000 rpm of the Sagami motor. This motor is the easiest upgrade
for HOn3 K class 2-8-2 with open frame motors (Balboa, PFM and Westside)
and makes them run as well as more modern and expensive models and will
considerably slow down Westside C-25s and K-27 and Sumpter Valley 2-6-6-2s
and works in the Westside Fire Train and T-1 4-6-0, NWSL
2-6-2T, 2-8-2 and 2-6-6-2.
14 mm Flat can motors;
While these motors run slightly faster and not quite as smoothly as the 16 mm
round motors (above), they
are the best can motor that can be installed in some models with narrow fireboxes
and they are powerful enough to power small HO steam locomotives like 0-6-0s,
4-6-0s and 2-8-0s if the round 16mm won't fit.
12 mm Flat can motors;
These small motors are surprisingly smooth and powerful for their size and
have been used in several brass locomotives including HO V&T 4-6-0s and
Overland HOn3 C&S 2-8-0s as well as N scale E and F units and the
PSC HOn3 Galloping Goose.
10 mm Flat can motors;
These new flat can motors are specifically designed for N scale but are also
very useful for small HO/HOn3 critters. These motors use rare earth magnets
for far greater power and lower top speed than would be expected from this small
a motor but the starting speed is fairly high. The FM-1020F(ast) and FM-1024F(ast)
use Alnico magnets, have less torque and a higher top speed but also have a
lower starting speed. The FM-1020F is used in the new Athearn N scale SD-70M.
9 and 10mm 5 pole motors;
This series of motors is perfect for N scale conversions and has been used
in some HOn3/HOn2.5 Jonan models(Climax and 0-4-0Ts). These motors are not
mounted in an enclosing can because that would reduce the armature diameter
that could fit inside an N scale locomotive and the slower speed and greater
power of the larger diameter armature is more important.

All motors come with hardened steel double shafts. If you need a single shaft, cut off the unwanted shaft with a carborundum cut off disk similar to a Dremel #409.
